9 week old chocolate pees in the house

I've had my new pup for a week,he goes outside to pup and i praise him and wait and wait ,he sits by the back door to come in,I finally let him in and his 1st order of business is to pee inside,

Oh, he is SUCH a baby. That's pretty normal for his age.

I will tell you what worked for me. I would take the puppy outside and let him sniff around. I would tell him to "go potty" and when he would start to squat to go, I would go a little crazy with the praise "Good potty! Good boy! Good potty!" We would stay outside until I got the behavior I wanted, and then I would praise the heck out of him. I would then give him a little treat.

Here's the other bit that seemed to make a difference. I would make sure to always be watching for his (sometimes very subtle) potty cues. For Theo, that was as small as slowing down when he was playing. Scoop him up, carry him out, sit him down with a "go potty" command, praise praise praise, come inside, give a treat. Other than that, I would take him outside when he came out of the crate, after playing, after eating, after drinking, after napping, before going in the crate, and maybe every 5-15 minutes otherwise.

    Welcome to the forum

Your baby is super cute. Oh boy how we forget how much work puppies are. I was taking mine out almost every 10-20 min till I figured out her cues. Molly would get very fidgety and vocal. When we would go outside and she would go lots of praise and a treat and then I would stay out for a few more min with het to make sure she was done. I agree with what @Laura said. At first its a ton of scooping up and getting out and doing the happy dance and rewarding.

For a few weeks Molly would only poop on my tile outside and I never thought she would get it but she did.

Good luck it does take a little time and lots of patience

Yeah, I think as the years pass it's easy to forget how much work a puppy can be! The husband and I sometimes talk about whether we could live through another puppy raising- but they are darn cute.

I just wanted to add: your first post is worded as if you let packer out but are not outside with him? If that's true, he could be going to the back door just to be with you.

for the 1st couple weeks I took chili outside on a schedule at a minimum every 2 hours all day long. once outside whenever he peed or poo I threw a big party with rewards/treats command go potty. it worked pretty well for me. if i saw him acting like he had to pee inside, i picked him up and outside we went.

-fullsizerender-7-jpg-fullsizerender-7-jpgi do praise him everytime he goes outside, and like my last chocolate while he's going I say go to the bathroom , go to the bathroom so he associates the phrase with the action,it's just very hard to stay out there long with him due to the bitter cold ,at least for me ,but with march coming the weather should be breaking but for now we have our hands full, and for the short amount of time they are puppy's i feel it's well worth the long term rewards

My Sophie was potty trained totally by 16 weeks... it just happened. One day she had accidents, and then no more. I would be very patient. That baby will get it.

I agree with this. Oliver is 5 1/2 months old and still refuses to be outside alone. It is colder than normal here but I just bundle up and wait for him to do his business.
