    1st Time Puppy Owner

    Greetings,
Will be getting our Lab pup at 7 weeks come Sunday! What are the best puppy chew/toys and essentials?
Also, should ! start command training right away? Do I try and teach multiple commands immediately or wait until one is mastered before presenting next? I am so nervous ! I will appreciate any help, tips and advice. Thanks

    Welcome!

    Have a vet lined up?

    Training class?

Kong's are great. I would go with black medium kongs for now. Grocery stores usually have Raw Marrow Bones or Soup Bones, great for labs.

    1. adjustable wire crate located where you want it for the long term
    2. Kongs, ropes, balls, small foam Frisbee
    3. Bowls for water and food
    4. Small bell on a string. Tie the string to the door know and let it fall to a point where he/she can reach up and ring it. Every time you take him to toilet, ring the bell. He will be ringing it in no time when he needs to go
    5. Something to cuddle with in the crate, that item should have no parts that can be chewed off
    6. Small collar. Might as well get him used to it if he isn't already.
    7. Be prepared for a couple long nights.
    8. I would wait a few days for training so the pup can get used to the new digs and also being with his new pack. Once he's settled in, train basics often but be patient.

Hi and welcome! Great advice above, and, yes, definitely something safe and fun to chew on.

One thing I forgot to mention regarding your training question. My thought is to train the pup on as much as he can absorb, but keep training short in timespan for now. But make sure you make a big happy splash when the command is followed the first few times. When I do that, it really seems as though my Ruger actually celebrates with me. And most importantly, he remembers what to do once the command is given.

This. No joke, we went through a whole bottle of Nature's Miracle and about 10 paper towel rolls that first week or two. It gets better!
