I just wanted to chime in to agree with everyone else. I think a ridiculous price like that is a HUGE red flag. One can find a well bred pup from a reputable breeder with generations of titles and health clearances (including the parents) for half that.

On the east coast, I would expect a well-bred labrador from a reputable breeder whose dogs have full health clearances and who is active in showing or otherwise competing with and titling their dogs to cost somewhere between $1500-2500. In my opinion, $3500 is way more than you need to be spending and I question the ethics of a breeder charging that much for a PUPPY. Maybe for an adult show quality bitch with at least minimum clearances? Shoot, my puppy from the east coast who went on to become an AKC champion and has other titles, and who passed all health clearances and was bred from AKC Champion sire AND dam only cost $1200, but that was a bit more than 8 years ago. I would expect him to be closer to $1800 or $2000 now. If you would like some recommendations as well as my experiences with breeders to stay far away from, please feel free to send a private message.

BTW, puppy prices on the west coast are still lower than those on the east coast. Even here in southern California. Interesting, eh?

P.S. remember with a lab you might also happen to go through a few thousand $$$ in toys, ... or socks, shoes and hats, destroyed bedding, favorite printed dishtowels from vacations and relatives.
What else did I forget? But it's all worth it, of course
<< and if you see a pup that looks at you like this, run! (it has plans for you)

Wonder if the original poster ever came back to read the answers- looks like we had plenty for him or her to read! I hope they did take the time to see what was said.

ZouZou- you make it sound like that so very innocent looking little pup has evil plans in store! that was funny!!!

It's sad when someone asks a good question at the right time and then never comes back to see the answers. According to their profile they haven't been back since posting the question (unless they came back but not logged in). Here's hoping they do come back and read this!

I live outside of Philly. I have 2 bench bred labs, that I show. The going rate is around $2000 around here. I know of a breeder in Nj who has nice dogs but not worth $3000 imo that she charges. Be careful a lot of byb around here too. Let me know if I can help you.

$1800.00 and worth every penny IMHO. Not just for the dog, but a "open door" to the breeder and all her expertise. That in itself is priceless.
