Crate training!!!! We found out the hard way with chewed cabinet doors & drawers when allowing free reign of an 9 weeks old lab puppy. We also placed the night time kennel next to our bed for the first few weeks. This allowed us to comfort him the first couple of nights and we heard him when he needed to go pee at nights. For the first couple of weeks you will need to take Spot out 2-3 times a night until his bladder grows.

It will be like caring for a baby all over again, what did I get myself into!!!! LOL!
I'm looking forward to it! =) thanks all! Now gotta set up the eyesores (crate and expen).

Only dilemma now is whether or not I should put my adult girl in with Spot. She would not like it for sure and I'm afraid Spot will bother her too much. But I'm also afraid that when Spot sees her outside the xpen he will try to get out to be with her and also cry/whine since he is the only one confined...
Guess we will find out when he comes home...

I would never put a puppy in a crate/expen enclosure with an adult. The adult dog will not be able to escape puppy antics.

yes, I was thinking the same...the adult wouldn't be too happy. I guess we will see what happens.

I am betting the puppy will be just fine and honestly most adult dogs sleep a good part of the day. I imagine your older one will pay little attention to the puppy in the crate/ex-pen.

it's entirely unfair to the adult dog to be crated/penned with a baby. they each should have their own space. Also, it's improtant for the puppy to learn to be crated alone. Should anything happen and he need to be crated (recovery, travel, etc.) it's important he learn to be crated alone.
