    New here from Alaska

Hello there! I had looked at some other boards, but this one seemed the most "adult" and helpful.

My not-so-little-anymore labbie is Jackson and he's right at 5 1/2 months. Most of the time he's my little blonde darling. I've been doing all his training myself, since the nearest training classes are at least 2 hours (in good weather) from here. I've gone through obedience classes years ago with another dog, and I've been devouring books and blogs. While Jackson isn't my first dog, he is my first lab. I think for his age he's doing great: we have sit, down, focus (look at me), and shake (with the command Say Hi) down pretty good. We're working on longer stays and recalls. He walks nice on the leash not pulling most of the time -- up until that leaf blows by or something else gets his attention! He also certainly has his share of crazy puppy moments and I know we have a lot of work ahead of us. I'm sure you'll see plenty of posts by me looking for advice

Welcome to the board. I think we have a couple of members from Alaska but the only one I can think of now is BrownieTrout.

The site above might be worth looking into for training. It's meant to help those who cannot get to training classes in person and the author is pretty well known in dog circles in western Canada. I find the writing style a bit hard to get through but if it's all you can get it might be worth a look.

It's Sue Ailsby at Dragon Fly Llamas, her dog site.

Welcome to you and Jackson!! I am quite jealous that you live in Alaska!! It's mine and Jakes dream to take out honeymoon there-we are more of the outdoorsy adventuring type

Hello and welcome to you and Jackson. Can't wait to see a few pictures of Jackson in Alaska. I went sockeye fishing in Soldotna a few years ago. I love it there!
