Welcome back. Sorry for your recent loss. I agree a reputable breeder will pick a puppy most suited to you and your lifestyle but a mere five weeks old is awfully young to be doing it.

In our case we got our second puppy from the same breeder as the first and the breeder is quite aware of our activities (training, competition, ribbons) so we got to pick our puppy but still, lots of grilling questions. There is a questionnaire designed to help pick a puppy, the Volhard puppy test. I took it and the breeder and I did the test at 8 weeks old. Honestly, I gave up on it, all the puppies were getting perfectly acceptable scores. A few questions seemed geared to older pups. I could tell much more by just watching the pups together and what I saw did not change much over the four visits we made in total. The test is interesting, it was fun till I quit, you might want to google it up.

Verry sorry for your loss. I have always seemed to be drawn to a pup or two in a litter. Have fun with the babies.

Welcome and congrats on the new addition
