Just wondered if anyone out there has a 8 week old pup I'm getting a harness and collar made and want an approx measurement. Hello and Welcome!

How exciting for you. Maybe the breeder would be the best for info on approximate measurements.

Please be sure to post pictures.

I would also check with the breeder, Lab puppies can really vary in size. A member recently posted their 8 week old puppy was a bit over 8 lbs at 8 weeks and mine was almost 20 lbs at 8 1/2 weeks. That is a big difference!

As previously stated they really can vary in size. My black female was 16 pounds at 8 weeks and my now 9 week old yellow was only 8 pounds which is incredibly small but that was due to a rough start and parasites, im sure if he was well taken care of he would have been bigger.

Id say the average is 12 to 16 pounds. Truthfully at 8 weeks i wouldnt waste money on anything custom made, the pup will grow out of it very quickly. A cheap collar and leash is sufficient at that age

There was enormous difference in size just amongst the 9 in Oban's litter, with the biggest easily more than twice the size of the smallest. Well, ok, the smallest was a runt. But even with the next smallest. I didn't use harness myself but if I did I'd look at the small dog or cat ones.

Don't bother with a harness. A small collar is fine right now, but just buy a cheapie at Petsmart or something like that. They won't last at all.

Hi and welcome. Really agree with the people who've already posted here - I bought a cheap collar for Mel and it was too small for her before she managed to get it dirty - 2 or 3 weeks. When they're this young, they grow incredibly fast.

Whatever you get... you'll underestimate the dog's size and needs. It is a thrill to get a new lab puppy. Nothing like it. Best of luck to you.

There are some very experienced Obedience people here... Rally-O, too. You'll want to link up with them. Lots of good info, even videos. They all use a collar for training (simple link collars, I think). I don't see people using harnesses too much.

    You WILL post pictures... please?
