    Hello / Introductions

    Greetings—

Have a 4 month old black (English) lab bitch we brought home at about 7.5 weeks. She is an absolute dream—easy as anything, sweet, people-focused, eager to train. Have had her in puppy classes since she was about 9.5 weeks old, and will be continuing for a while, moving to confirmation (for fun—she was purchased on limited registration), and Therapy Dog training (for her certification, and on the suggestion of a few of her trainers).

At 4 months she's probably... 43 lbs or so. One more set of shots left. We won't alter her until she's 18 to 24 months of age.

She's just great fun. I look forward to sharing things with fellow lab lovers.

    Abs.

Photos below: from 8 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, an about 15 weeks.

She's a bit thin in the last photo—it was right before we realized we needed to up her food to 3 cups 2x a day. Her substance is better now.

Have fun with your pup. Just know, other than conformation classes, there isn't anything else "show-wise" you can put your limited registration dog in for "fun". You can probably do matches too since they won't be verifying AKC registration numbers. I'd focus on everything else, in those area you can win titles!!

Oh, I know!—but I think the classes will be fun for her, and informative for me—that's what I meant by "fun." Also, her breeder has suggested that she would reverse the registration if I am interested and serious about showing her (this pup was her husband's first pick, and her second, so we wound up with her). And that will depend largely on ... I don't know. If I become interested in showing her (and if the breeder Oks it, obviously). Of I have no intention of breeding her—and I am well aware of the limits of limited registration. Perhaps I was unclear in my use (or idea) of "fun."

But she's young yet; will get her through her next obedience class and the Therapy Dog classes, and then see about it. We are in constant contact with our breeder, and wouldn't likely do anything she would not advise.

Off to work. Many thanks for the welcome.

That makes sense, and if the breeder has already talked to you about reversing registration if she looks good, that's great.

Picks at 8 week are hard. Jagger was 2nd pick by his breeder. The husband wanted Jagger, the wife wanted the other puppy (the one I actually liked better LOL), and she picked Hendrix. I got Jagger. Jagger's almost an AKC show champion. Hendrix has already been sold off to a pet family and retired from showing.

Hi and welcome. I think we have a picture of Mocha in the same pose as the first one. They do grow fast.

I freely admit that there is no way I'd be able to make such a pick at 8 weeks. I mean, I can tell "Holy cow, what a gorgeous dog!" from "What a cute little puppy!" but when it's a litter of really finely bred dogs, there's no way I distinguish. I'm hugely impressed that people can do this.

Since was I was interested in was a dog bred for temperament and health, in my research for a breeder that is primarily what I paid attention to. I'd checked out the dam and sire and a few of the grandparents—and I knew I wanted a dog from this breeder, as she consistently produces gorgeous, evenly tempered dogs—but it didn't occur to me to really look at her pedigree—and try to understand it—until after I'd brought her home.

When we picked her up, my first thought was only "I'm going to pass out look at how sweet she is." After lots of hugging and face licking and me nearly hyperventilating, the breeder said "Let me show you something" and took the girl over to the table. She said "get behind me, and look at her in the mirror," and then stacked her. And then said "You could show her. It's a possibility." (And that's when I learned that she had been the husband's pick.)

At the time, I was all "Ok, fine whatever just look at her face!"

Which is still my typical reaction to her, frankly (well, her face and her personality, which melts hearts), but she does get a lot of attention from Lab folks when we are out and about. I'd grown up with Labs (and a couple Lab mixes, who were great, too), but never one quite as gorgeous as this girl.
