I have two golden labs Hunter and Henry. Both my boys are happy rescues. Hunter is almost 9 now that we got as a puppy and Henry is older we are not sure on his exact age because he was found by the city on the street. A little more about Henry who is officially my sister's dog but I think of him as my own as well. Hunter is the louder more active of the two and Henry is more of a gentleman's dog.
Henry's history
My sister adopted Henry through animal services. At the time, he was found as a stray. He was emaciated and extremely scared. It was winter, and being a large breed yellow lab he jumped right into the lap of the animal services tech. When my sister saw him at the kennel, he was petrified. He tried to escape the kennel and had injured his nose. He had to have a home! He must have been at least 8 years old at the time.
When he got home, he was put on the best prescription food possible to gain his weight back, and eventually, he did. Fast forward to a couple of years later. We were at the lake. Henry helped my brother in law propose to my sister. He had gotten a custom dog tag made with "will you marry me" inscribed on it. He slipped it on Henry's collar.
A year goes by and guess who or ring bearer was? Absolutely, it was Henry!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Hunter (the dog in the avatar pic) we got as a puppy. His mother was rescued from a northern community coming in pregnant with seven babies. One female (golden), one male golden (my hunt) and the rest all black males. This was our very first dog to our family. We had been a cat family for many years and it took a while for me to convince the rest of the family to get a dog. When my father finally joined my cause to get a dog he said it had to be a lab or a retriever. The rest of the family was still scared. A year passed before we finally got everyone on board and went to a friends house that had a beautiful black lab. We got to know what their lab was like and the meeting went good other then my mother saying "he is so active, I don't know." Of course the dog was super happy to see new people and wasn't so active all the time. Mom and everyone got over their worries and decided it would work if we had some rules. We first looked at ads in the paper and then decided on rescues. We met one dog a retriever mix from another shelter and I held him but I knew something was off. I liked him and my dad loved him but I needed to think about it.
The next time we all went to a foster mother's place. This time everyone went and as soon as we walked down the stairs it was like """"""woooowwwwwwws" from everyone so fast! We were blown away just from looking at them from the stairs! So beautiful! tunnel vision! I knew we were taking one of them home. But I wanted two! I asked for two and for the first time everyone was actually considering it along with me!! The next step was the hardest which one? A golden one or a black one? (or in my mind which two yes I was still dreaming). No females left the other golden female was already gone. At last we decided on the last golden one. He cried all the way home in the car. We felt so bad!
Continuing on another day hugs.
