Great story! You've come a long way, and with age comes maturity and perspective. I look forward to seeing pics of the girls, and wish you the best of luck with the new pup. And from a fellow veteran, thank you for your service.
Welcome, Dano!
Enjoyed your story...thanks for sharing...we look forward to getting to know you and your future pup(s).

Welcome, thank you for your service, glad you made it back (I have a friend whose young son was not so fortunate, I am saddened to report).
When I started reading your story, I admit flinching—teens / young adults and animals (as in "this is your pet!") often don't mix. My first "my own" dog was an Irish setter (my family had a lovely lab mix), but when I went off to college, of course the dog stayed. She was more than loved—and of course my parents knew that she was going to be a family dog from the beginning—but I always felt a little bad—she was my dog, and I was her girl, and then I turned 17 and left state—and learned my lesson.
I didn't own another dog for decades. I felt so bad about leaving my Irish—even as she was loved and pampered—I didn't want another until I knew I could be stable and full time. (And that's how I wound up with Hoku, and how I wound up here.)
But as I read more of your story, also wincing about the college years (and high-fiving your parents), it's clear that you have really finally grown into the privilege of having a dog. I think that's wonderful. Well done, and welcome.
I'm married now, a perfect 12 year old son, and a stable and successful career. And Hoku has certainly changed my life. I spend much more time relaxed. And outside (even though I love to be outside, she requires it, and reminds me to make the time). Right now we are out of town for the weekend, at a small seaside town in WA state—feet from the Pacific—where we can ramble in dunes and forest trails and visit goat farms and just go for nice walks. We've long loved this spot (photos to come), but she reminds me to slow down sometimes, and explore the forest. I'm glad I finally grew up enough to deserve this.

Welcome. Thank you for your service.
Love this story. I had a litter of 12 in January and had some backlash when I informed my husbands 21 and 22 year old brothers that neither of them could have the puppies that they ever-so-wanted. They will get there.... someday. Heck, I waited until I was 30 to get the one I wanted for so many years!
Also, you have some great parents!
And, of course, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
Thank you for your service, it means so much to us. Can't wait to see your puppy, congratulations on the stars aligning for you so that you can finally get your sweetheart. Thank you also for your dedication-as that is what it takes to raise a dog as a family member.
Welcome
Im sure that you can't wait to get back. Looking forward to seeing your fur baby when you get him or her.
Thanks for your service and you're making some good choices. You can tell from this board how many zillians of things you can do to have fun with your lab, and how versatile they are. Do you have particular goals/plans for you and your new pup?
