    New member from Iowa

Hello all! Did a little lurking and decided to join. I have a yellow lab that is currently 20 weeks old. Figured this was a good place to get some ideas and tips to turn him into a well behaved hunting machine. I had another yellow lab before current pup and know I made some mistakes in training her. She was still an excellent member of our family, but lacked in hunting ability because of my mistakes of not training her. This time with Leonidas I wasn't to be sure I do things right. Leo is coming along nice in general obedience and shows good natural ability and strong drive. He's a little apprehensive of water, but will join me in the water. I don't want to push it, just taking my time and enjoying my puppy right now.
I'm certain that I'll get some great advice from the seasoned trainers that are part of this forum.

Welcome! 20 wks can be a terrible age for much training, just a forewarning... Don't push the swimming either if he's already apprehensive. I've found they are in an awkward / gangly growth phase about then and sometimes aren't well coordinated. He'll probably surprise you and be a beautiful swimmer in a month or at least next spring if you just let him do it on his time.

Welcome!! I've got a 17 week old pup, and he's teething which has turned him into a bit of a jerk. The good thing is that you know they will grow out of it!
