WooHoo! Kodi loves it!

Have been occasionally taking Kodi down to the neighbors pond to continue his dock diving experiences. Well, really his jumping off the dirt bank in preparation for a real dock experience! Finally found our orange bumper and DH and I both went down to the pond with both boys tonight. Kodi loves the bumper so that's a plus. After about 15 minutes of jumping in after it, getting some decent stretch, I figured I'd have DH hold him back like a runway. The pond is pretty good sized and has a 20x40 foot almost island in the middle. (connected to the edge by a narrow strip of land) The bottom slopes pretty quickly away from the island. The edge of the island is about a foot above water level.

DH held him about 20 feet back- that was hard in itself until Kodi figured out the routine. He was a squirming fool trying to get to the bumper!! When DH let him go he FLEW towards the edge and sailed out over the water for that bumper!! Took me a few throws to start to get the hang of it but Kodi was a jumping, diving fool! He did NOT want to stop! Best jump from the island was about 8 feet out over the water!! We were impressed!! A few times he actually slid across the top of the water like a slip n' slide he was so stretched out.

Now we have to find a dock to jump off! How far above the water should it be? And of course we have to remember to take the darn camera next time!! Thanks to this board for introducing us to Dock Diving- because Kodi loves it very much!! (and it's fun watching him have so much fun!)

Sounds like you have a dock diver for sure!! A regulation dock is 24 inches above the water.

You might want to contact the SoCal DockDogs to see if they have suggestions for you or to find out any events that might be coming soon.

SoCal DockDogs Club

Good luck to you and Kodi!! You've found a great sport to participate in.

There is nothing like watching our doggies having a blast!

I hope you find a dock and Kodi enjoys himself!

No, we take him fairly regularly to the pond. This was only the second or third time we've 'practiced' diving. He is one HAPPY pup when he's swimming. What's funny is that Zeke our pb male is so-so on water and swimming- he'd rather hunt lizards and snakes while Kodi our hound/lab prefers to swim! They are surely confused!

Promise to take the camera next time!!
