    Inability to start a thread

For about a week now, I've tried to start a thread in Fire Hydrant. After I type it and hit Submit, I get a message saying "The page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave- data you have entered may not be saved." The choices are "Leave Page" or "Stay on Page". If I leave page and hit the back button (my workaround when I got the 'your post is too short' error), my message is gone. If I try to use Preview Post, it looks fine- but if I try to then hit Submit, the textbox is grayed out and I get a 'your post is too short' message. Again, the back button doesn't fix it.

I've tried using Firefox and Chrome. I'm on a Dell.

Apparently I can post in the "test" and this areas, though.

The error has to do with how the browsers and the software communicate. The software tried to save a copy of your message in the background in case you come back or lose your connection etc.

From what I see the error happens between all kinds of different software platforms not just the forum.

You could try deleting your cache and see if that helps.

I put a thread on a help forum but not sure if that forum is active or not.
    Thanks Everyone!!

I sent the text to myself to my iPad and posted from there. That worked (after the usual "too short!") message. thanks for the diagnosis!

I get "too short" frequently. Sometimes I've remembered to copy my post before hitting Submit, but I'm usually out of luck. I figure the Lab Board has just as much right to be quirky as I do. 😜

    I did get a reply.

The error is caused because the site and browser believe you have some sort of comment or field filled out that you have not yet submitted. If you type a comment but don't post it in the quick reply box it will remember it the next time you go to that page.

Because the software is over 4 years old it is likely outdated compared to browsers.

I did change some code that others have said fixed the issue.

I think clearing cache and cookies would help.
    Thanks Everyone!!

I just unsuccessfully tried to reply to a thread (too short a message) and then unsuccessfully tried to start a new thread for my reply. I posted in this reply...also too short.

The one thing I changed in my wording was to take out an emoji (one of the windows 10 ones) and a PM seemed to go through. I then attempted my original reply in janedoe's thread and it posted.

Perhaps consider emojis as thwarting successful posting. Either that or my encounter was a hiccup that needed to be over...nothing seems to be updating/scanning on my computer at the moment, so I'm going with the emoji.
