    Hard Keeper

My pup (10 month old female) is in a pro's kennel and is super lean. Good muscle mass but very ribby looking. Great coat, super enthusiastic... healthy in every measurable way. She's eating 6 cups/day of a high pro mixture (Something-something Extreme) but we're switching her to a Eukanuba performance brand. She really isn't worked that much each day, but I just think that being in a kennel with a lot of other dogs keeps them on edge and increases her metabolic demand.

Anyone else ever had this experience?

I have fed Eukanuda Performance (old now new blend) forever and it keeps the dogs in great shape. A lady once ask me if I polished my dogs because their coats were so beautiful. I know that the pros around here like to keep the dogs on the lean side. Elle would make twice her litter mate! MY two are getting fat with this year off, even M who has always been lean. I will get Elle back on the treadmill next month to get her loosened up for when we can start some field work. Right now we can't even do obedience as everything except essential services are in lock down. Wish that people would follow the rules so that the numbers would come down and we could get back to normal.

I'm sorry I can't remember the brand name... maybe it is "Extreme" of the chow she was on, and I'm sorry I can't remember the protein percentage. Rocket Dog was also looking ribby late last winter, but when she was put on Euk, I swear she has a different look to her. I doubt she's gained weight, maybe a minimal amount... but she just looks more fit. And also, the coat is much shinier. I didn't think little Yella Fever would need the extra boost (the pro charges just a little more per month for it) since she wasn't running any big dog technical stuff. But there just must be some stress to being in a kennel with 20 or 30 other dogs... one dog barks, they all gotta go on alert and start the same business. She's not a pacer, but she'll want to be in on any excitement.

When M was at the pro's she was worked hard everyday but Sunday. One time when I was visiting Don said listen and I could here this pounding, it was M bouncing off the sides of her outside run. She wasn't hurting herself just expressing the desire to get out and get going. She still bounces off things (especially )if things are not moving fast enough for her.
I have found Eukanuba has all the nutrition working dogs need. The vet that does Elle's rehab suggested I put her on glucosomine/ condrotin along with a fish oil supplement. Not sure what it is doing for Elle and M but it sure has help old Wallace with his joints. He is getting around much better.

Hmmm... maybe good for the dogs and me as well.

The supplements I mean. Not the Euk. I'd have trouble figuring out which wine to serve with the Euk.

I would go with a nice chardonnay.

Totally, a Pinot Grigio would be too sweet.
