6 mo old with constant diarrhea ever since we brought her home two months ago

Any suggestions? Our gal just turned 6 months old, has been on Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete from breeder to us the whole time. This sweet, lively, intelligent pup has regularly had poop the consistency of cake or pancake batter. She's almost done with her 4th round of antibiotics. She had giardia in her stools until recently - that's cleared up, but now has bacteria in her stools, per each of the vet's analysis. We've given her white rice, pumpkin, sweet potato, chicken - all as partial supplements to the Diamond Naturals kibble. Any suggestions? Thank you....

Can you switch her kibble to a blander/simpler puppy kibble, and one without chicken protein, but with pre and probiotics - to help with her previous giardia? The Diamond Extreme Athlete is for active adult dogs. Our breeder sent us home with a kibble that also produced soft poops and once we changed it, Loua gave us nice turds.

Antibiotics can kill the good bacteria in the gut, causing the diarrhea. Not sure why they wouldn't give you some type of anti-diarrhea meds........

When Oban had month and a half long diarrhoea and lost +20% of his body weight, at 6 years old, we switched to a Holistic/Integrative Vet who stopped all meds, (except Prednisone must wean off it) stopped his kibble and put him on home cooked novel protein and novel carb. Instant stop to the runs. Strongly support a Holistic/Integrative Vet. He was not on antibiotics. I would stop the rice, rice goes bad very quickly and is not suggested if there is some kind of gut issue making for the diarrhoea. Yes, with antibiotics we were told to also give Acidopholous to replenish the good bacteria the antibiotics killed off. Then kefir as maintenance for probiotics. I would not like to do any of this without the Vet overseeing, the Holistic/Int Vet. You say you are on the same food, but what about your water? Long shot I bet, but something in your water she's not used to? Good luck.

Get her on a good probiotic! Antibiotics mess with the gut microflora. Poor pup, she has been through so much, I hope this clears up soon.

Giardia is notoriously difficult to manage, they easily reinfect themselves if their gut biome is not healthy to begin with, and his has been through the ringer. I highly recommend a good quality Pre and Probiotic, I was recently told about Doc Roy's GI Synbiotics granules, and used it with my last litter and we have had perfect stools.

Oh and Dorothy, I would recommend a food change, not a fan of Diamond foods, try Purina Pro Plan Sport/Performance 30/20
