From a genetic standpoint you should get some the size of the sire and some the size of the dam. Depending on the sizes of other dogs in their backgrounds you could get some in between, or bigger or smaller. Breeding a tall dog to a shorter dog will not produce an average of the two. I had a discussion about this with a breeder when I lived in the UK many years ago. You also can't tell by the size they are as puppies as to what they will be when grown. There were only two pups in Song's litter, him and a female. When they were born the female pup was twice as big as Song. We got to meet his sister back in the Summer when they were just about 2 yers old, and she's just slightly smaller than him. So ya never know.........

Song on the right, his sister Bonnie on the left. They definitely look alike!

Nice pics of Song and Bonnie!

Barry, I don't agree with your whole post. Yes, some pups may look like the sire and some like dam, but hopefully they will be taller than Loua. In Loua's litter of 7, Loua was a little smaller than the rest and remains this way, we saw it right away when she was a pup at 3 weeks old. She is also shorter than her sire and dam. Loua takes after her great-grandmother in looks and height. Loua isn't slim and petite, she's built like a Mac truck, muscle, bone and all.

Also, breeders will breed to improve small faults. In Loua's case, her tail has feathering, Nitro doesn't, so the breeder is hoping to breed out the feathering. Time will tell on puppy sizes and their tails....

Yeah but think at how cozy and warm you would be with 3 ;-) I can laugh because with Hemi, I have a California King, that was plenty big for the both of us as I am not a small guy either. In the RV it was a real queen not an RV queen and the 2 of us struggled for enough space. We were really cozy.

I love them big. The bigger they are the better for me. I get it though my sisters all like them smaller. Again though I am a big guy.

    Hemi was a Lap dog.

I love those photos of Hemi and Cliff, the lap dogs! Henry will lie nicely beside me if I sit on the floor. Joey is such an excited wiggle worm that I'm half afraid he'll pull out my earrings or end up on top of my head!

The pictures of Song and Bonnie are wonderful!!

I also love the pics of Hemi. Our lab was also a lap dog. His vet (who was also a Labrador owner) used to call labradors a smaller size dog

Update on Loua. The breeder has decided to not breed Loua. Breeder had said a few times the "timing sucks", because it would mean a winter litter and they don't sell well because of potty training in the cold and snow for the new puppy owners. She has a litter on the ground now and will be stuck with some of these puppies until about Spring time. We're happy about this and Loua came back home last night.

Oh, wow! I'm glad for you that Loua is back home and it all worked out how you wanted anyway.
