Sending vibes that Loua doesn't go into heat
Why don't you show her if she does? It's a lot of fun
Not really 'chopping', but breeding block. Her breeder wants to breed Loua with her next heat cycle, as you know we're not fans of this, but we co-own Loua with her. Loua's "husband" has been picked and he's a gorgeous yellow boy, his name is Nitro. If this happens, Loua will join Sonic in the showrings here with her breeder.
Here's my request for you, please send vibes that Loua never goes into another heat cycle ever again! Loua's heat cycles aren't regular at all, next month it's a year since her last cycle. The most difficult part of this isn't that Loua will be pregnant and have puppies, it's that she'll be away from us/home for 8 weeks or 2 long months
.
Thanks for sending Loua all your vibes .

Black Labbies (07-24-2024)
Unfortunately, all breeders (more than Lab breeders) here are co-owning their female pups, just in case. And just recently, we heard that Loua was pick of her litter.
Even though we've watched many conformation shows in person and on TV, I don't feel confident enough to do it myself. I've been doing the training for it with Loua; stacking, running in a big circle, heeling and more. And, I have a wonky ankle that gives out sometimes and if that happens in the ring, Loua would be disqualified. Nah, I'll leave this up to Loua's breeder to do .

You know, it's too bad on the US import rules for puppies. Cause you know, I been thinking. While it is not time yet, maybe next spring I might be looking for a yellow boy. If you were to have some offspring you know it would go to a good home. But the dang import laws now. Curse the South US. It is so flooded here with dogs from the south they just keep coming too. I was thinking of reaching out to Nicole, from here on the forums, does she ever pop back in? She was only an hour away. Ever since Covid the flood of dogs and new inexperienced bad breeders is terrible.

Loua is four years old, so, assuming two years between litters, maybe they won't want to breed her again? I mean, assuming she does get bred this time. Loua, don't.
I was offered co-ownership, different breed, but said no. My friend with two of their dogs finds it fine but she lives pretty close to the breeder and I don't. Her girl would go away while in heat as well because her male is intact, and they use a different male for her girl. And not just for heats and breeding and whelping, also for the conformation show titles they wanted to put on their dogs. Sounded like a big responsibility and lots of time away to me.

Just out of curiosity has Loua had all her clearances done? Hips, elbows, eyes, cardiac, etc????
Snowshoe, yes, we've discussed this with Loua's breeder, "one and done"! We also co-owned Zoe/Zoda for a while, until Opal's breeder saw her and told Zoda's breeder (in Ontario), "nope, she's not breeding material". We were so happy about that! I've told Loua to go into menopause...it's great .
Jeff, we won't have the puppies at our house and the breeder will be looking for good homes for them. I don't know about Nicole.
Barry, yes to all. Her breeder is a vet tech specializing in reproduction and anesthesia and took care of all her clearances. This breeder is well known and respected in her field and even vets call her for help. We trust her with Loua and know she also loves Loua and wants the best for her, again, it's Loua being away from home. She doesn't live close to us and we can see Loua once a week.

Nicole doesn't seem to come on here any more but she's still an active breeder and, at least according to her website, she has a 15 month old yellow male available now. Even if you're not ready now, I'd go ahead and contact her so she knows to keep you in mind. Here's her website, Piccadilly Labradors: Home
We also get a lot of dogs brought up from southern states. I've also often seen people bringing dogs in from islands in the Caribbean or the Middle East, I think,, as if there are not enough dogs already in the US needing homes. Our local rescue organizations are overflowing with dogs and cats.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

OK, Loua! Just say No!
I guess we had a bullmastiff many years ago whose breeder lived nearby and wanted to show him. He was a sweet boy but had some issue with his eyes which would have ruled him out as a stud prospect so he didn't show too many times. Since the breeder just lived about 10 minutes away, Jack was at home when he wasn't strutting around the ring. That would feel weird to hand over your pup for long periods for showing and whelping. I had 2 young kids and was working full time back then and did not have the time nor the motivation to try to show him myself.
