    Here comes Teddy!

It's been so long since I've visited the board, but I'm just bursting with happiness and had to share some good news.

First of all - Thor and Barley are doing great. Thor is a healthy and spry 11 years old, and Barley, who just turned 7 the other day, is still my frat party on paws. But Thor is getting older and I know that every day at this age is a gift. Barley has never been an only dog and doesn't really enjoy being alone. Thor is really good with puppies and modeling good behavior, so we decided that we'd bring in another puppy while Thor was still around.

Unfortunately, both of their breeders weren't options for us this time (we've moved since we got Thor and Barley's breeder has retired), but I started my research a while ago and found someone great and got on a waiting list. The litter was born last weekend and we will get a yellow boy! I was really hoping that this pairing would work out for us so I'm super excited.

We haven't really shared with friends and family yet since the litter was just born and we weren't sure if there would be a puppy for us, but I had to tell someone so my internet lab friends it is!

Friends of ours will be getting a black male from this same litter so it will be really fun to raise them together and have a built-in playmate of the same age nearby.

We're about 90% settled on the name Theodore/Teddy. He should come home the first week of May!

And then there were three!!! Congrats on the new addition, I'm sure Barley and Thor will be great older brothers! I must say I really like the dark pup on the bottom end!

I do too! We debated going with a black this time, but we live on 10 acres in the country and it's hard enough seeing a yellow when he wanders off in the dark for his nightly business. At least a darker yellow would contrast with my current two. In other pics of the litter all the yellows are a bit darker except one. We have second male pick and there are three yellow males so I'm hoping we end up with a darker one. But that will depend a bit on how personalities emerge. Based on the parents of this litter we have some plans for this guy so the temperament testing will have a big influence on which puppy we choose.

How exciting! It's so fun if the breeder sends you regular photos as they grow, too! I'm with you on the black dogs at night situation. All our labs have been black but they didn't have 10 acres to disappear into. Do you still have a place to take him in a laundry basket while you guys enjoy a brew or two?

I hope all goes as you hope, I cannot wait to hear more about him!

P.S. I'm glad to see Thor and Barley are still doing well! Any time I see someone is getting a new puppy my first thought after, Yay! is, *gasp* but what about...?

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
