My other dogs were before the internet. I do remember the 864 comments I received about how big their feet were and that they were going to be 100 lb dogs (the biggest was 68 lbs and he never grew into his feet).
Sam was a rolly-polly puppy. I got him at 10 weeks and 30 lbs. He was 52 lbs at 16 weeks. He got up to 110 lbs, which was too heavy, so I took him down to about 80 lbs. He holds his obesity well and no one guessed he had 30 lbs to lose. He's about 85 lbs now as he has gained some muscle this summer from all of the swimming. He definitely was not full grown at a year old.
Linus was about 45 lbs at 16 weeks. He topped out at 96 lbs when he was a little over a year old. Field people thought he was chunky but the vet thought he was fine. I took weight off of him because of the jumps and the field work. He's about 80 lbs now, bigger boned than Sam and naturally more muscular. Linus was an early bloomer and doesn't look too much different between a year old and now (three).
I do keep them lean with a back rib or two visible in the right light (hard to see under all that coat). It helps with their endurance, energy, jumping, ability to work in the heat and in their future health. I can't believe the difference! Just because they are conformation bred doesn't mean they need to look "ring ready"! The double the weight thing has been a rule of thumb for us, not science. I think it can help people keep things in perspective. I know a lot of people who thought their dogs were going to be huge because of feet or the size of the dad and then went out and bought giant beds and collars, only to end up with a 45 lb dog.
It'll be interesting to see where Brooks ends up on the scale. How tall do you expect him to be? My boys are both 24".
I got it! Haven't had a chance to look at it yet, did field training this morning. Brooks did a great job, first time he's seen someone other than me throw a bumper. He was straight out and straight back. There were some that were considerably longer than he's seen, landing in grass so he couldn't see them from where he started, and he did a great job marking them. We also did a few water retrieves, and his swimming improved greatly from our last session.Originally Posted by windycanyon

Larky was 28 pounds at 14 weeks. The vet's receipts do not indicate weights like our last vet's did. Anyway, if you figure 2-3 pounds gained per week, that would be 34 pounds at 17 weeks for 2 lb/week, 37 lb if 3 lb/wk. Double that puts her between 68 to 74 lb. She weighed 68 lb this week and has for the last ~2 years. I don't have Chase's weight records but his weight hasn't changed from between 85-90 since he was a bit over a year old.

harry weighed 4 pounds at his first vet check up at 7 weeks..he goes back this month ill post what he weighs. hes already lost some fluff and gotten taller. lol
FOUR pounds? That is in toy dog or small terrier range. I have had bigger Cavaliers at that age, and they matured between 14 and 18 lb! Granted, a rescue could have a lot more growing to do, and be
-younger than they guestimated
-from a huge litter with low birth weights
-malnourished before rescued
or
some other mix or a mix with a small breed. I'd love to see photos! I bet he is cute and smart!
Brooks is officially 4 months old today. I took him by my vet's office to get him weighed, figuring he's getting to big for me to hold while standing on the scale and getting an accurate weight.
His weight was an even 39 pounds. I did my best to get a height measurement, which isn't easy with a happy, bouncy puppy. His height is 18 1/2 inches.
It should be interesting to see how he progresses!

It's pretty interesting to see how uniform the pups are (by sex of course) in the litter. I am used to having more of a range than what's been reported!

I probably missed it somewhere but how many siblings does Brooks have and what colors are they?
There were 7 in his litter, 3 yellow males, 3 black females, and one yellow female.
