Lots of good thoughts. Looks like you are lucky to not have infection, with an open sore so close to the ground.

Dozer paw update: Dozer has not had any further open areas on his paws and his paws continue to improve (even off of antibiotics) I emailed the Vet pictures of Dozers paws taken this afternoon and then the Vet and I spoke on the phone. The Vet feels that at this time we should take a wait and see approach and that he doesn’t feel at this point the biopsy needs to be done. We both actually feel Dozer has been through enough and that unless his paws start flaring up again, we will just keep a careful eye on him. The Vet said Dozers infection (Pododermatitis) takes many weeks of antibiotic treatment (10 weeks in Dozers case) and that at this point he is pleased with the progress. Dozer needs some boots for extended time in the snow, and I need to monitor the enlarged lymph node to ensure it decreases in size.... but for now Dozer is done with antibiotics and foot soaks and the appointment for the biopsy, culture and aspiration has been cancelled!!! We are doing a happy dance here!!

That's good news. I hope his paws and node continue to show signs of improvement. How wonderful to have this become something in your rear-view mirror.

Did this problem ever resolved and did you find out what was caused it? My dog Thunder has exactly the same problem. When I saw the pictures and what you went through-I thought it was my dog. It’s been over a month now, 4 visits to Dr and waiting for blood results right now.

Yes it eventually resolved, but has returned twice, just not as bad as previously. The Vet diagnosed him with Pododermatitis. Dozer is currently on week 3 of antibiotics for a recurrence of this problem. He is also on Apoquel to see if that will settle it down. Good luck with your pup.
