Poo eating!! I’m so upset

My beautiful girl Sunny who is 8 has turned into a full time, constantly looking for poo eater. I just hate it. She is an Angel normally. I’m a trainer, she’s a therapy dog. It’s started 3-4 months ago. Yes I have talked to my Vet.

All of my girls have been poop eaters. If you think about it, they do this cleaning their puppies. Katie did it even though she never had puppies. I've tried multiple things but the only sure remedy is picking up immediately. You can try the leave it command if you see her but don't turn your back. Have poop bags with you always.

is it just her own? Or does she eat other dogs too? The latter is much harder to deal with, it's everywhere. Your Vet should examine her diet and the output to see if anything is lacking and maybe adding it to her diet might stop her trying to get that element from other dogs' poop.

There are also thing you can add to diet that is supposed to make the poop not appealing. I never understood how that works, they eat it in food you approve but not in their poop? I guess it works for some but it didn't for our first ESS, she still ate her own. Whisper was starved before she was rescued and I figured, even with adequate food, no wonder she ate everything. PIcking up diligently for a year seemed to cure her. Good luck, it's a tough one.

I had a chocolate boy, Noah who was a poo eater. He would follow Fannie around the yard like she was a soft serve ice cream machine. Absolutely disgusting. I tired all the usual methods to stop it and nothing worked. When I got Sophie I swore I'd never let it happen again. I always have poo bags on me, and clean up after the dogs as soon as they go. Sophie would eat bunny and deer poo, and they all seem to like goose poo, and there's plenty of it around. Mine all wear e-collars when we are out walking and they get nicked, and a "leave it" if they even glance at the goose poo. It's done a pretty good job of correcting the problem.

It is a disgusting thing to see and smell! "Don't lick me for the next 2 hours!"

Our vet believes poop eating dogs are lacking some vitamins/minerals/nutrients in their diets. From our experience, I agree. Once we added something like Missing Link or CT Support Plus (given as directed), the poop eating stopped. Interestingly, raw/homemade fed dogs hardly eat other dog's poops. Ours do eat bunny and deer poops, however.

Oh that must be frustrating. Diggity loves rabbit poo and goose poo and it drives me nuts, but thankfully he’s never developed a taste for dog poo.

Oh gosh! I've had 2 dogs that had this habit...what worked for me was constantly cleaning up after them...like right away. Keeping your yard clean and always carry bags with you.

But I also wanted you to know that both dogs eventually "outgrew" this behavior. Good luck with Sunny.
