Ugh! Poor girls! Hope you can get them cleared up quick!
We finally have a diagnosis for Ursa's intense itching. She has sarcoptic mange. She picked it up with our last camping trip in the mountains, probably from wildlife of some sort. We walk in the woods a lot. This is affecting Ursa's general health, and her coat is in terrible condition. Both girls have been bathed.
Sarcoptic mange generally attaches to young and older dogs. Loua also has it, but her young and stronger immune system is able to control it much better. Both girls are being treated with Advantage Multi and Sulfur homeopathic.
Many years ago Opal had sarcoptic mange when she was about 4 months old. It's a frustrating parasite to kill, EVERYTHING the girls/dogs come in contact with has to be washed. We keep a clean house any way, but we still have to wash EVERYTHING. Ugh!
Poor Ursa.

Poor girls...good thing you got the diagnosis. One thing....I thought Ivermectin was what was used for mange. I know that's what some folks around here have used to help mangy foxes.
Much good luck getting it under control fast.

I hope this gets under control soon and that Ursa starts feeling better

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Oh no, poor girls. There have been internet news feeds from Wildlife Rehab places on coyotes and fox with mange, photos that look pretty awful, but I don't recall a single one saying whether it was Demodectic or Sarcoptic mange. I read up on mange just now and Sarcoptic sure sounds worse, mites burrowing into the skin. And it's transmissable to humans. Both say topical treatments might be used, does that mean Ursa would be shaved? I know some of the coyote and fox were shaved but I think they were extremely bad cases, with matted hair already falling off them. Lots of good thoughts to Ursa and Loua and you too.
