Ultrasonic Tick Deterrent for Humans and Dogs

Anybody use these, for yourself, and or the pooch? Happy?

Vet suggested these a year ago but Eddy is on Advantix, which Vet would continue to use. But I got a tick myself on Friday. On my collarbone, a morning of -1C and ice on top of the birdbath, me wearing a turtleneck, warm sweater, coat and gloves. It was up to 5C when we went out. I was worried so went right out and bought one for myself and one for Eddy with a $20 off coupon I had anyway. Cost a LOT more than that though. One issue I see is I guess we have to wear our new jewellery even in our own backyard, to weed or whatever, a nuisance.

I found conflicting information. They don't work, or they do but are dangerous, or at least might have undesirable effects, to other beings. And other things too, like hearing aids. But those were the ones you stick in an electrical wall outlet. These are powered by a battery. However they likely aren't good for most Labs as they are only water resistant, not water proof. Eddy doesn't swim.

Oof, I just pulled a Lone Star Tick off myself a little over a week ago. I'm hoping not to contract that alpha-gal syndrome but also any other tick-borne illness. I haven't heard of an ultrasonic tick deterrent. Our vet and I were commenting how we'd love to have some sort of tick deterrent for humans just today.

I'd like to hear if it works if you walk in nature vs. city parks and blocks. For people who really have an issue with ticks, I didn't find info it worked. And apart from the manufacturer and the people selling it, I didn't find anyone praising the product.

Actually there is a tick deterrent for humans, the same brand that makes mosquito deterrents, Autan, has a product that repels both mosquitos and ticks. Haven't tried it, I bought it for camping, but didn't have to use it. I only pulled a tick off myself once, for all these years I camp and hike, so ticks are not really an issue for me. Dogs - a completely different story, lol.

There are a number of spray on tick and mosquito deterrents available to us. Some you apply to your skin (picaridin or DEET), some are recommended for spraying on your clothes (permethrin). I haven't had many tick bites but I've surely had some. It was a warm day and I was wearing shorts for the first time and we were at the beach. I guess it got me when I took the dogs around this manmade lake that has a lot of vegetation around it. Ticks and Lyme Disease are very prevalent where I live.

The area I'm live is pretty much infested with ticks of various kinds. Since we are regularly out in fields and woods I'm constantly finding them on me. We were field training yesterday, and I was throwing live flyers with a buddy of mine shooting them. We weren't in the field 2 minutes and I had three ticks crawling up my legs, despite having applied Deep Woods Off right before heading out into the field. Pulled off three more when I got home. I'd say I average about 3-4 embedded ticks per week this time of year, but I've pulled them off all through the year.

7 plus years ago I started using Seresto Collars on the dogs, and they worked well until about 3 years ago when I started finding engorged ticks on Brooks on a regular basis. I talked to my vet who recommended Simparica Trio. I've never been a big fan of the topical or edible products for fleas/ticks because of the neurological problems associated with them. I weighed the options and researched a lot of different products. Further discussions with my vet led me to start using the Simparica Trio, and I've been using for all three dogs ever since. I can honestly say I have not found a live embedded tick on any of the dogs since I started using it, and I can only remember pulling two dead ticks off of Brooks.

I lost a dog to kidney failure associated with Lyme disease about 20 years ago, and I definitely don't want to go through that again. Brooks has repeatedly tested positive with Lyme antibodies for the last 7 years, thankfully it hasn't turned into full blown Lyme.

Sadly you have to weigh your options and determine the threat level of how prevalent tick borne illnesses are in your area. As much as I hate using it, the Simparica Trio does work well for us, and thankfully we've had no negative reactions to it. ON a side note, this stuff is not cheap, a one year supply is over $400 PER DOG, and I've got three dogs!

My Sophie was on Advantage/Advantix for over 10 years and our new vet fully recommends NexGard/Spectra. Great for the dog, but doesn't help me any! Last year I found Natrapel, which, if I remember to actually put it on, seems to work. I've read that it's dog-friendly, so I've lightly sprayed it on her back to help keep the black flies off her (they drive her NUTS). https://natrapel.com

that stuff looks interesting. Mosquitoes and black flies don't like me much, not as much as they like some other people, and the dog. But I still need a repellant for them at times too. Yes, Eddy is on Advantix too, and will use it with the ultrasonic device.
