Hi everyone... updates on Ursa and Loua...

How's everyone and their doggies doing?

We've had a busy summer with several nice camping trips, which Ursa and Loua loved going on. Loua is usually a hit with the kids because she still has that puppy-face look. "Can I please pet your puppy?"..."sure, but she's 5 years old" .

Update on Ursa. She's doing pretty good for being almost 14.5 years old. Several people wanted to meet and pet her when we were out walking during camping trips. "Oh, look at that old girl", can we pet her"?...sure! Ursa met a 16 year old girl with one of our walks and the 2 oldies became friends. Ursa's kidney disease is about the same, although she has a UTI right now, which she's on antibiotics for.

Update on Loua. She had her annual vet check yesterday and she's a strong, healthy girl, except, I pointed out a lump on her left shoulder, which was aspirated and there's a concern it's a Mast Cell Tumor from viewing the sample on the slide. We'll know for sure when the lab results come back next week. If yes, surgery to remove it will happen sooner then later. This really sucks! But we're hoping it's not MCT.

Anyway, hope you're all doing well!!!

A mostly good update - Great. Hope Loua's lump is just fat, or at least benign. What breed was the 16 year old? You go, Ursa

The 16 yo was a tan colored, cattle dog cross, she walked with a limp, but looked good for her age.

Loua's pathology result is in and she has a Mast Cell Tumor in her left shoulder, which will be surgically removed on September 26/25. So far, this tumor is in the skin and not in her muscle, so we're hopeful for a successful surgery.
Please think of Loua on September 26th. Thanks!!
P.S. Thank God Loua wasn't bred past January. Somehow Loua knew and told us then to fight for her safety and health. We love you tons, Loua!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, bummer. Glad to hear it is not in the muscle, should be a smooth surgery. I don't have experience with MCTs but it appears they are not rare in labs.

Will be thinking of you on September 26th, may all go well with the surgery!

Berna, we've also never had MCT in our dogs, Loua is the first and a big surprise, considering her young age.
Thanks for thinking about Loua .

    Update on Loua.
She had her MCT surgery on her shoulder this morning and is now home recovering. When the nurse/tech was shaving to prep her, she found 7 more very small tumors around the bigger one (which was the size of a brown bean). All lumps have been removed and sent for pathology. The vet thinks that the smaller ones are benign and we sure hope they are!
Thanks for your well-wishes for Loua.
I hope the pictures work, and once again, they're sideways.

Hope that does the trick and she is feeling better soon. Glad the smaller ones were caught too. Poor girl.
