    Transitioning to HRC from AKC

I probably don't have to tell you how hard it is to get in to Master stakes in AKC. I've had no choice about choosing a venue in NV because there are no HRC clubs. But, being stranded in TX as I am, I've ended up training with a great bunch of HRC folks. So... Rocket Dog who has never hunted and I (don't know which end of a duck call to blow in, can't switch shoulders with a shotgun, don't own any camo) will be running HRC (when there are any events to run.)

Rocket Dog is learning to follow the gun barrel and also learning that there won't be any quacks coming from the field. I think HRC is a bit more demanding on line behavior, especially at the Grand level. But with the guidance and coaching from one of the pro's around here, she is getting the hang of it. (Now if someone would just lift me off that bucket thinger.... just kidding. Sorta.)

    Aye Lass,
I have ran under both organizations for years. The transition is really much bigger for the handler than for the dog. This is especially true for Those going from AKC to HRC and having no previous gun handling skills. Easily doable with gun safety being emphasized rightly for the safety of all participating in HRC events.

A friend of mine will be hosting has a women specific handler's clinic that would be advantageous for any handlers without previous experience wishing to participate in HRC events.👍

Update: I have finally returned to NV. I made a very tough decision to leave Rocket Dog with the pro in TX. She is showing some incredible growth with a confident and competent handler, and perhaps one whose standards are clearer and more no-nonsense than mine (the "mommy person" in her life.) Here are the, I hope, consequences of my choice. This pro will be hitting the road and running HRC events in MN and MT before coming back to TX. It is highly likely that Ram Jet Rocket Dog will have her advanced title and be qualified to run the Grand this year in KY by the time I get back to TX in September.

I really wish there was a way I could have gotten her MH title this year. She was ready, and honestly I think I was as well. But the stars just weren't aligned and it was too hard to get registered to run.
