Things have been pretty slow around here but I did manage to do a few things in September. I visited my brother in Northern Ontario and trained for a week at a friends place. His grounds are used for the Amateur National (which was cancelled) and are just beautiful. We had a picnic trial on the weekend and Elle managed to be the top dog in qual. Came home and judged a junior hunt test for the Golden Retriever Club. In a moment of insanity I told my neighbour I would take a kitten if her cat had another litter. I am now the proud momma of a 12 week old kitten that has taken over the house. Dogs beware! Everyone who sees her thinks she's Siamese but she is 100% barn cat.
Lastly, because I had not spent my money on trials this year we decided to expand the front pond. It has been on my bucket list for a while. The excavator arrived Friday and we have done a couple of little jobs, removing what we thought were small rocks. Turns out they were like icebergs and three quarters of them was buried. One weighs almost a ton, it was huge. Tomorrow we will clean up another patch of rocks and brush to open the center field more. The official digging starts on Monday. I am already planning the opening picnic trial for next spring.

Sounds like you've been keeping busy, actually! Our ground is very rocky as well and out front yard got pretty torn up when they had to excavate for a gas line. It's surprising the size of the rocks they dig up that you just think aren't that large. Stay well!

Pond has been expanded and is full of water already. There are some landscaping details to take care of next Spring but I think it is going to serve its purpose. Because he was finished so soon we are now having a few other odd jobs done, like clearing fence rows and having a point on the back pond opened up. Next on the to do list is to have the fields recut and the bush line pushed backed. That will be done as we get ready for next years trial season. Property maintenance is like house work it never ends.

Sure wish I could see your grounds. Sounds fabulous. But no more big drives for me for a long while. I sure wish this covid crap was over and done with. But I think we'll follow the usual epidemiological time line just like the Spanish flu. Only, God willing, we won't see 100 million dead world-wide. I know I'm selfish, but I just want to get back to running dogs again.
