    3 Distemper Foster Puppies

Just got three new foster puppies, these are foster 8, 9, and 10 for us but our first confirmed distemper cases. Two of their littermates have already died sadly before they got to our shelter to be treated. These three are doing pretty well, two have a mild cough but crazy puppy energy and one has a more severe cough and is slightly lethargic. They've been on high doses of vitamin C via a catheter which has meant cones of shame and injections for us. They are also on azithromycin and baytril to treat some of the common initial symptoms.

Please keep these little ones in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for the good thoughts! They got their catheters out and cones taken off! It is incredible how much their spirits soared from that, particularly the more "lethargic" one, I would certainly not call him lethargic anymore!

We've done sets of 2 puppies several times now, but we think that we may have overstepped our limit a little bit with the 3 haha. Being so outnumbered during the day is hard! We're trying pretty unsuccessfully to get them to use the pee pads (since they can't go outside or risk infecting other animals). They're 3 months old but have absolutely no house training.

But there's nothing quite as cute or terrifying as having three puppies cannonball out of the crate at you each morning.

Wow it’s amazing that you doing this. I lost two puppies from the shelter to distemper. It was a really rough 14 days with one of them. And the other one survived for 1 month before having a major seizure.

Sending you all the moral support I can and mojo to the puppies.

    You are brave

3 weeks later and they’re all still doing really well! Two are completely symptom free and one just has a very mild cough. All are continually eating and gaining weight and have crazy puppy energy. They’re completely off all meds. I’m hopeful that they’re in the clear but of course you never know with this horrible virus.
