Thanks for posting! I've never been particularly strict about not exercising my young dogs other than limiting the height of their jumping (in training), and the only one I've had with joint problems was our first, Scully who developed elbow dysplasia at about 8 years old. That said, she was overweight as a young dog and was born before elbow screenings were common place. Sometimes I wonder if we did too much with her too young, and I do regret letting her get too heavy (until we figured out it was her thyroid at around 3 years old), but other times I figure it was luck of the draw.
Personally, I believe weight control and regular low impact exercise is SO important for health and longevity in dogs and that more harm can be done by overfeeding and not keeping them conditioned.
