When does she do it? It could be “empty tummy syndrome.” Stormy does this. Feeding her 3 meals a day and giving her about 1/4 cup of food at bedtime eliminated it. If it’s just at night, a lot of dogs get a dog biscuit at bedtime.

I have to do what kimbersmom recommends for one of mine also- 3 meals a day, the last one usually not until about 8 pm, and then mine get a large Milk Bone before bedtime. Henry needs it, Lark is happy to go along for the more frequent eats!

I've had to give a nighttime snack to several of my dogs.

But you say that one time she was licking herself. What body part was she licking? That could be anxiety because of empty tummy...but then she wouldn't have anything to throw up other than bile....or a reaction of some kind to whatever was in her stomach, not empty tummy.

There also were times when one of mine would eat breakfast but was about to have had an empty tummy episode, so breakfast would come back up. I let them consume that since it wasn't "sick" and obviously was still tasty. (Not something I let them do for a valid upset stomach.)

I've had that experience also. I figure if they're not too sick to eat what they just threw up immediately after having eaten it, they're probably not sick. It might seem a little sickening to me but considering what they eat outside, regurgitated food like that is still fresh and hasn't been out rotting in the wild.
