How much did/does your 4 month old lab weigh?

Hello!! So my little girl Coco is a chocolate lab and she just turned 17 weeks. She got weighed yesterday at the vet, and she's 27.2 lbs. I'm wondering if this is small for her age? It's bothering me because I got a comment from a stranger petting her the other day that she looks to be too small for 4 months. Is she just growing slowly? Is she going to hit a random growth spurt? Am I worrying for nothing?

At 16 weeks Oban was 21 pounds. At 18 weeks he was 26 pounds. At maturity he weighed usually 66 to 68 pounds which is smack in the middle for the breed standard. is Coco skinny, or fat? What does your breeder say? What does the Vet say?

Edited to add: What were the strangers credentials for commenting on Lab puppy age, growth and weight? LOL. Welcome to the board. I know we'd all like to see a photo of Coco.

My breeder said her mother is around 65-70 lbs, and her father is around 75 lbs. Vet said she's looking great, didn't really mention anything about being too skinny or too fat.

I was wondering the same thing honestly. The stranger mentioned he had a mixed breed puppy of the same age and went on about how his puppy was much bigger. I guess he thought that somehow made him an expert 🙄 just annoying how a stranger's unsolicited opinion can make you paranoid.

    Pic of my baby 😊

Hi...welcome to the board. Don't worry about comments from strangers...except for us, that is. 😀

Did your vet comment on Coco's health in any negative way? Did he indicate that she was too heavy or too skinny? If the only issue is that you think she looks small, you are worrying for nothing. Labs, like any other breed, can be at the bottom of their size range or at the top....and look different from most of the others. I bet you won't love her less if she does turn out to be small.

I had a 75 lb. compact male chocolate and a 65 lb. long-legged skinny female yellow. I had a 90 lb. heavy-boned long and stocky male yellow. They were all purebred (not all well bred) and all healthy.

I absolutely can't remember paying attention to weights except to make sure they were thriving as puppies and never had overly padded ribs. (The big boy we got at the age of 3 and actually took 30 lbs. off the poor guy.)

Someone will chime in with official Lab puppy weight, I'm sure. All I can tell you (because I kept his puppy records) is that my mutt Danny weighed 20 lbs. at 17 weeks and was a 36 lb. adult. He had Lab in him, but this is comparing apples to oranges, for the most part.

So...ignore people. If she ends up being small, just remember that good things come in small packages. And she'll be easier to get in and out of a vehicle.

And please share a picture. We love seeing new Lab board fur family members.

Oh, she's adorable. And I realize you can't tell from a picture, but she sure doesn't look small to me for 17 weeks. She's going to be stunning as she matures....hope you'll stick around so that we can watch her grow.

Oh good, I thought it was just me! She looks big to me for just 17 weeks, I was surprised she only weighed 27 lbs. I think she might be in that tall lanky phase right now.

If you've got some time on you hands here's a post I started 4 years ago when my boy Brooks was 4 months old. He weighed 36 pounds at 4 months, and is a sold 75-78 pound adult.
