Acana or Orijen?

I have an 11 week old female lab. I have been feeding her Pro Plan so far as my vet suggested it. But I am not OK with this formula. First I want to ask if puppies can be fed with adult food with different amounts. I've read this here Regional Red | Orijen It says ''PUPPIES: up to 50% grown feed twice adult amount, 50-75% grown feed 1½ times the adult amount, and 75-100% grown feed 1¼ times the adult amount.''
I don't prefer chicken based formula but I can't find lamb based puppy food.

So I have done my research and now there is 2 options for me; Acana Lamb & Okanagan Apple and Orijen Regional Red. Which one is better? (even considered just as adult food)

Are there anyone who has an opinion about these two formulas?

What did your breeder suggest? How is your puppy doing on the food? Many excellent breeders feed their puppies and adults Pro Plan Sport 30/20. I fed that to my pup. When he was around a year, I switched to raw.

Orijen and Acana are both good foods, though very, very rich.

Most adult foods can also be fed to puppies in higher amounts.

Just don't get on the food change train or you will make yourself crazy and your puppy will constantly have digestive upset.

I'm still feeding what the breeder required, and my boy is doing wonderfully on it. Is Latte not doing well on the Pro Plan? What are you trying to fix by changing foods?

The one I am feeding her is not pro plan sports. Actually there is no pro plan sports on the market in my country. Just a few additional pro plan and purina formulas that I don't trust the ingredients. Latte is doing well, though. But I want to choose the best for her.

I'd stay on Pro Plan until the dog is 12 months and/or done with growing. Then change. Honestly, as a breeder who sees lots of dogs at shows and as pets, breeders recommend a food because they know that the pup will grow well and correctly on the food. They don't put their puppies on fad boutique brands because you can't be sure how they'll develop. I've heard all sorts of stories about folks changing to a food that no one raised puppies on, and they end up with Pano or joint issues. Might have happened anyway, who knows. Not something I personally want to risk. I feed my adults different brands like Evangers and Fromm's as well as Pro Plan, but I will always feed my pups Pro Plan.

SO GLAD a breeder weighed in on this topic. I am anxious to start feeding raw, but know that my breeder wants Theo to grow on the food she has chosen. She did explain about others that have tried to switch, resulting in pano and uneven growth. I've trusted her on this and on many other things, and still use her as a resource months after bringing my puppy home.

I second Jen! I would stay on Pro Plan until at very minimum 6 months, ideally 12 months. Acana and Orijen are great foods, but way too rich for puppies.

Pro Plan is very different ingredient-wise in the US and in Europe. If it weren't for the words "Pro Plan" on the labels, you'd think it's not the same brand.

With that said, I wouldn't feed Pro Plan. I'd try Acana, it's a very good food and if it agrees with your dog, it's Jack Pot. Orijen is too rich, IMO.

+1 - VERY RICH - very high in protein. I would absolutely stay with Pro Plan - it's good food that TONS of people trust and feed.
