I'd stay on Pro Plan until the dog is 12 months and/or done with growing. Then change. Honestly, as a breeder who sees lots of dogs at shows and as pets, breeders recommend a food because they know that the pup will grow well and correctly on the food. They don't put their puppies on fad boutique brands because you can't be sure how they'll develop. I've heard all sorts of stories about folks changing to a food that no one raised puppies on, and they end up with Pano or joint issues. Might have happened anyway, who knows. Not something I personally want to risk. I feed my adults different brands like Evangers and Fromm's as well as Pro Plan, but I will always feed my pups Pro Plan.
