We had an emergency at home of a different kind.
Loua is 4 months old today and just starting her training career. Part of her training is socializing with people and other dogs.
The emergency: our next door neighbor is an active eighty year old Italian lady, who is also a cancer survivor - tough as nails!. Mrs. K., as we call her, has a 10 yo Chihuahua named Freddie. My sister works from home for the most part, and around 11:30 am the front door doorbell rang repeatedly, it was Mrs. K. at the door in a panic, the carbon monoxide detector was beeping and calling out 'carbon monoxide, carbon monoxide' and she didn't know what to do, so sis went over to her house and they firstly opened all the windows, just in case. Then sis asked Mrs. how she was feeling - "not so good, I have a weird headache". "Ok", said sis, "we're going to phone 911 for help, just in case". Two fire trucks and 2 ambulances were here in no time! One fire-fighter asked sis if there was a safe place for Mrs. K. and Freddie to go while they checked out why the CO detector was going off, "sure, over to my house".
Now, our house is set up for puppy Loua with gates, expens and crates, so sis went in first to secure Loua in the kitchen expen and Ursa by the back door with a gate. Then settled Mrs. K. in the living room and Freddie in Loua's other expen. Within seconds there were 5 men in our house to see how Mrs. K. was doing and to report that there were higher levels of CO in her house and she was right to call for help. Both Mrs. K. and Freddie are okay, shaken up, but okay. It's a furnace problem causing the higher CO levels and it needs to be fixed TODAY! The furnace is shut off and we're in colder winter temperatures.
As for the puppy socializing: sis said that when the first responders came in, each one said "ooohhh a puppy, I'll be back - first need to check out how this lady is doing" (work before pleasure). By this time I was home for lunch and had let Ursa upstairs so they met Ursa, too. Both girls were soooooooo good and remained calm, almost like their natural instincts kicked in, and Loua sure had her share of people socializing this afternoon when everyone, including the Gas-man petted her and Ursa. Our puppy training is paying off!!! I'm so proud of Ursa and Loua for living up to their smart and calm Labrador Retriever traits!

Good job...and I'm so glad Mrs. K. and Freddie are OK. That's scary.
Oh my gosh. It's so lucky Mrs. K went to your house. Sounds like that detector maybe should have gone off sooner than it did. Good girls Loua and Ursa.

Wow, a furnace can cause higher CO levels? Why didn't I know this? I don't have a CO detector but I think I will invest in one. Glad as is well with your neighbor.
Mrs. K is still a little nervous about what happened, but she's realizing that she did right by getting help. Had she not had a Smoke/CO detector combo, and had she taken her usual midday nap, who knows what could have happened to her and Freddie. Don't want to go there...
On Thursday evening, the front-door bell rang, it was Mrs K.'s daughter bringing my sis flowers for helping her Mom during a very scary time. When we do our Christmas baking, some will be going to Mrs. K.

Not usually an issue unless there is a problem with the furnace. Previous house’s furnace had an issue and set the detector off. It had a readout and was nowhere near dangerous levels when the alarm went off. So I’m addition to having the detector, it’s important to place it in the proper place so it goes off early.
