Oban went Over the Mountain to See What He Can See.

Castilleja's Dubhgall Oban, the Black Stranger of The Little Bay
Oct. 15, 2007 - June 13, 2021

As an 8 week old puppy Oban sat bolt upright the whole three hour trip home from the breeders so he could look out the window. Now Oban is resting.

Oban, who's theme song was The Bear Went Over the Mountain because of the line "to see what he could see," now has a view from the Rainbow Bridge.


The hole left in our household, our lives, is not fully felt yet. We have sad good bye, the cats have said good bye but Oban's presence is still felt, I am sure it always will be. I am concentrating on the years of happy memories and already I can smile without too many tears when these come to me.


It was a real winter the year Oban arrived, with lots of snow and many days with lows of -30 celcius. Of course he would be the puppy who needed out twice a night at first.



I'm coming Mum, this stick was just too good to leave behind.

Joey is one of two stray/feral/dumpee cats who appeared in our yard and made friends with Oban before coming anywhere near we humans.

I am so so sorry. I know how much you loved Oban and that you will feel such a void. I lost my sister in May and I still can't believe that she is gone. Every time the phone rings in the morning my first thought is that it is her.
You will have many wonderful memories of Oban and in the weeks to come it will be less painful to cherish them

I am so, so sorry to see this. I feel like it leaves a hole in my heart as well. I know Oban already ran free-er than many dogs in real life. He's just moved on to other trails. Many hugs to you.

Well it seems I am getting doubles of the photos too.


2013 Waterfalls Tour. In this photo Oban weighs 82 pounds. He is solid muscle with a small layer of fat after a winter of cross country skiing and snowshoeing and extra food. He always needed more food in winter but I overdid it a wee bit this year. Still, he does not look fat.




Throw the ball - Or Else. LOL, here I was expecting to catch a look of happy anticipation and instead got this completely atypical look of menace.



Oban was always happy to pose. In fact when I tried to take photos of flowers he would often get between me and them, knowing treats followed photos. ME, Mum, take MY picture.




Come out? But Mum, it's so nice and wet and muddy and cold. I don't want to come out.




C'mon in Mum, the water's fine. The mud is pretty good too.

There are no words. Hearing about Oban and his adventures and antics always brought a smile to my face. The void from his passing is immense. I am literally in tears trying to type this. I can picture Sophie standing there waiting to great Oban, taking him and showing him where all the good stuff is. Oban lived a grand life, and I know he will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences for your loss.
