Another Reason to Cry, the Other Lab Named Oban Has Also Crossed the Bridge.

We met four years ago when my Oban saw a lady and her big yellow Lab at the bottom of the hill. I called my Oban to me and he came but then, turned and ran back down the hill to meet the other dog. While I shook my head the two Labs met, sniffed, then my Oban ran back up the hill to me. I was not pleased he'd run down after I called him but no harm done, he did come back to me and we continued our walk. We met the lady driving out in her jeep and she stopped to ask if my dog was ok as she'd seen him run up the hill after meeting her dog. Turns out I could see her but she could not see me at the top of the hill.

So of course I asked what her Lab's name is, he's looking out her window at us. Oban. What? You're kidding, my dog is named Oban too. Wait, I asked her, did you call your dog to you when mine was heading up the hill? Yes she had, she'd called out Oban COME. Because her dog was about to run after mine. So that's why my Oban had turned and gone back down.

We met several times after to walk the dogs together at the same spot. They really were not best friends but they got along ok. Her Oban had some mobility issues in his back legs and could not keep up with my Oban, but wild play was not desired because of her Oban's legs so that was ok. The lady and myself, it turned out, had not only gone to the same University but we both majored in Geography, albeit a few years later for her.

We were planning a walk when Covid hit. Her aged father lives with her and we did not want to take chances with transmission of disease. Plus her Oban could really only walk on dry ground, not snow, so we just never got that last walk in.

Her Oban - May 17, 2007 - June 29, 2021 Run Free Sweet Boy, my Oban is there to have that missed walk with you.

The two of them walking together now is a sad/sweet image...comforting.

Rest in Peace, Oban. And you, Nancy's Oban, teach him how to Run Free.

A great story of two wonderful dogs. May they both rest in peace.
