    Huge skin wart need help!

My dog’s 11 years old and he has a skin wart on his abdominal region, with a bulb like shape. Doctors suggest surgical removal. 7-8cms in length and about 3cms in diameter. It is brown- pinkish in colour with black streaks. It is stretchy and soft to the touch. My dog is otherwise healthy and active for his age.

Hi Nikhil! What is your question about this growth? It's hard to know from an internet post what the growth might be. It would no doubt require anesthesia to remove it. You would want to know your dog's kidneys or liver can handle the surgery. In the US, blood would usually be drawn before surgery to make sure they could safely handle anesthesia. There have been other dogs of that age that have had surgery successfully but after getting a bit of a work up.

Ditto Smartrock. Anaesthesia is much advanced these days and it may not require a long period of time "under." Has your Vet done such operations before? Were you given any idea of what the growth might be?

Thank you for your replies! I tried posting pictures of it here but doesn’t register. Anyway, my vet says that it it seems to be benign, but if not, it has to be removed either way. But my real concern is if my old dog will be able to handle the surgery as this could require a general anaesthetic. So I am trying to avoid surgery altogether.

I am not sure but I think you have to make just a few more posts on the board before pictures can be added.

How long has he had this growth? Has it grown quickly? I hope you can avoid surgery as well but anathestics have come a long.
