    update

Lucy crossed the bridge peacfully today. True Lab that she was, she ate a treat and wagged her tail in her final moments. She was looking right into my eyes as she drew her last breath. She had a good last day, full of love and her favorite foods. We miss her already, she was such a big part of our lives for the last 12 years. I am so grateful that I found this forum all those years ago when Lucy was a puppy; I have received such good advice and great support here. We just never have them long enough.

Cyber hugs to you. Feeding time was the hardest for me even though we still had Pink’s I automatically called out Maddie’s name too then realized she’s no longer here. Every now and then I’ll occasionally accidentally call one of the other dog’s name too probably because I was subliminally thinking about them. Yeah they still hurt as well, I usually take a moment tell them I love them and miss them badly, take a deep breath wipe the tears from my eyes and carry on.

Hugs to you. I, too, tend to imagine I'm hearing their paws clicking on the floors or a groan as they settled into their beds for weeks after they're gone. If reading about the loss of a pet is at all appealing to you, Going Home by Jon Katz was a good one for me.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

My heartfelt condolences with the loss of your beloved Lucy. It's a very sad and tough decision to make when our senior dogs need our last help to cross them over the Bridge to Heaven.
Hugs to you and your family.
    Rest easy, Lucy!
