Hello all, I have a sad update to share. Our beloved Brodie has moved onto the next life.

This all happened so suddenly. We had scheduled a follow-up for him to have an ultrasound last Friday to find out more. Unfortunately, he passed away when we arrived at the vet before they could even administer the test. The doctors believe he must have had a tumor on his spleen that was ready to rupture at any moment, and they said even getting him in and out of the car could have been enough to cause it to rupture. They said it is likely that the ultrasound would have revealed that there was a tumor on his spleen, which would have led to a recommendation that he be euthanized.

We are glad he was at least at the vet when it happened and not home for our kids to have to see. He seemed like his normal happy, playful self right until the last day. That made his passing a shock, but we are thankful for the 10-plus years we had with him and that he did not seem to suffer in any way.

Thank you again for all of your support and taking the time to offer advice. This forum has some really great people.

Oh my gosh! Not what I was expecting to see here today. I'm so sorry you all had to say goodbye to Brodie so suddenly. Our last 2 labs, Chase and Lark, both died from ruptured splenic hemangiosarcomas, both so sudden and unexpected. My hugs and condolences to you all. Run free, Brodie!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
