Tanner had LP. At the time I was dealing with it, it was referred to as GOLPP or Geriatric Onset Laryngeal Paralysis Polyneuropathy. I remember it lasting quite a while in the form of a few years. The breathing became more and more problematic but was somewhat manageable by keeping him calm, cool, raising food bowls, using benadryl or doxepin, etc. The thing that really caused more of a problem in his case was the rear end weakness (polyneuropathy), which came about later in the disease process.

I did not do surgery and probably would make the same decision again. I didn't feel the outcomes were worth the risk, especially for a senior dog, which Tanner was. I did belong to a couple groups (Yahoo I think) to stay up with the research and talk with people going through the same thing.

Best wishes for you and your pup going forward.
