Thanks for the great idea on using the ladle, Soapy. We've also tried a ladle taped onto a paint-can stir stick, with no luck with Ursa. The thing is that now Ursa squats so low to the ground that we can't fit anything but a cookie sheet under her, which is too wide to go between her back legs, so I found a low plastic swiffer mop tray (washed it good) and that worked this time. We also have a clean plastic pill container in our pocket to pour the sample into. We're going to practice catching her pee everyday until she gets used to us being behind her and doesn't freak out. Crazy thing is, when we're camping and on our potty walks, we're always behind or beside her and she pees and poopers no problem, so what's Ursa's problem, right?!

Took a few pictures this past week of the girls.
Here's Ursa laying under her warm blanket, recovering from her infection.
I don't know why it's sideways, but mine are straight.

Nope, no pictures. Not for me. I mean not of Loua. I see the ones of Ursa you put up earlier.

I can see one photo of Ursa, lying under her blanket. Yes, it's sideways. She looks so snug! I don't see any photos in your other post about Loua. I'm happy that the story of Loua has worked out in your and her favor!

Some of the posts do look a little weird, there are spaces where you wouldn't think they'd be in some of the threads. But, I haven't tried signing out and signing back in or shutting down my computer and starting it up again so it may be on my end.

    A good update on Ursa!

Ursa finished her antibiotics yesterday and WOW, she is feeling so much better! Before this, Ursa looked and acted sick, she slept a lot, her coat was dull and thin and she was losing her beautiful thick Lab tail hair. Amazing how quickly her tail is already looking better.

We feel so bad that we didn't think a bad bladder infection (that went to her kidneys)was making Ursa sick. This is Ursa's first ever bladder infection. Another pee sample goes to the vet on Wed or Thurs next week for a recheck and hopefully the infection is gone for good. To catch the sample, we trying to train Ursa not to freak out with us walking behind her with the plastic tray so we will have a successful catch on the days mentioned. And, the antibiotics have also helped to clear up Ursa's ear infection!!

Tonight, Ursa took her Hol-e-roller ball and we kicked it around the house, this is the first time she's wanted to play in weeks.

We're hopeful that Ursa blood work at the end of February will be better than the last one.

Thanks for all your well wishes.

Good girl Ursa! I am glad she perked up. Is there a way to prevent these infections from happening in the future? I remember Cookie's bladder infections were almost constant, but vet said it had to do with urine retention, especially when he could no longer walk anymore and he was not emptying his bladder like he should.

If Ursa was alone during the day while we're at work and having to hold her bladder, I could see her having bladder infections regularly, but 1 of us is home all day and night and the girls go out for potties about every 1 to 2 hours, and there's always fresh water for them to drink. We think this happened because of Loua cleaning (licking) Ursa after she goes pee, because Ursa can't bend to clean herself. It's not all Loua's fault, because Ursa puts her bum in Loua's face as if the say "clean me". We're stopping this habit and wiping Ursa with a wet paper towel now.

I wonder if there is some kind of stress? As there is in my one male cat who developed bladder infections after I made him be an inside cat after he was injured in a fight. Apparently it's a common thing in male cats, bladder infections. Joey went on special food but still got infections. It's the stress of being kept inside. I'm back to letting him outside for the day, in the house at night, as his life has been since he showed up here 10 years ago. Easy for me to determine the source of the stress but can you think of any possible thing that might be stressing Ursa?

Snowshoe, the only 2 stresses Ursa has is going to the vet and us trying to catch her pee for a sample, otherwise, she lives a calm and happy life. These 2 are not daily things. Ursa used to love going to the vet, but as she's gotten older and all the poking and prodding they do (for LP, ear infections and chest x-rays), she doesn't like it so much anymore.
