Another update on Ursa. She's slowly feeling better again and is back on 2nd round of antibiotics for 14 days, as the UTI infection isn't gone yet. We finally caught her pee by using an opened, clean, zip-lock bag, tied around her waist with a string and then to her winter coat. Ursa reused to give us a pee sample when we followed her around the backyard with the plastic tray A LOT, so we got creative and now we have a strange way of catching her pee and it works.

Has anyone used the cranberry supplement with D-Mannose in it? Different vet suggested it for Ursa (Dr. Wanda is away). Urs gets a cran-cap everyday, but this new one is an add-on for now.

Last night Ursa took a stuffie out of the toy tin to play with Loua and that makes all of us happy! .

Yes, Cookie was given D-Mannose (and cranberry) supplements for his UTIs, but I found antibiotics worked better. We always did an antibiotic sensitivity test. There are bacteria that are resistant to many, so the way to go is to find the suitable antibiotic. D-Mannose helps, may be used as prevention if the UTIs are recurrent.

Another Ursa update. Ursa is doing quite well, she's back to wanting to go for shorter walks. Yesterday, we went to the park to play soccer ball and she trotted after the ball and came back to me and then ruffed up the ball (her favorite thing to do - shaking her head with the ball in her mouth and then pouncing on it) .

Her coat is coming back in and her fat, hairy Lab tail is also back and wagging!!

Tomorrow, we bring in another pee sample and wait for the results. If the infection is not completely gone, then they'll do a culture and possibly change the antibiotics. She's doing well on the cranberry with D-Mannose and we'll continue them for now.

Loua is doing great and helps us with Ursa by leading the way going up and down the stairs, while one of us supports Ursa, up or down by holding her harness handle.

It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. The UTI is GONE!!! We're so happy for Ursa that she's feeling better! We continue with the supplements, herbs and homeopathies and then a kidney blood panel is scheduled for March 20th, along with an osteo treatment.
    YAY Ursa!!!

    Another update on Ursa.
Ursa continues to be alert and happy, but she's sleeping more. Her water intake is up and of course, she pees more. Ursa is not suffering! Her appetite is very good!

A 2nd pee sample from last week still shows no UTI (yay), so a another blood panel was done last week. Some of Ursa's kidney values have gone down a little - which is good, but she continues to be anemic, where that number has gone down in a bad way, she's now at 4.28, was at 4.73 in Jan/25. We're going to try another Chinese herb which talks with the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells and also helps to strengthen her kidneys more. We're also changing her diet a bit to add more foods that are iron rich.
    RBC 4.28 x10^12/L 5.65 - 8.87 4.73 x10^12/LOW
    HCT 29.7 % 37.3 - 61.7 32.3 %LOW
    HGB 10.9 g/dL 13.1 - 20.5 11.6 g/dLLOW

The other supplements we're giving her are helping and bringing some of the values/numbers up or down, as shown below.
    CREA 342 μmol/L 44 - 159 346 μmol/LHIGH (Ursa's # is on the left, the right is from Jan/25, red is normal range)
    UREA > 46.4 mmol/L 2.5 - 9.6 > 46.4 mmol/L

Today, Ursa carried her soccer ball to the park and I threw it 3 times for her and she ran at her slower speed to retrieve it. We were both happy . We're not giving up on Ursa until she tells us.

Please keep Ursa in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks!
