It's been a while since I've updated on Ursa.
Ursa is doing ok. She's showing her age more and the kidney disease is catching up to her overall health. She's had a few bad infections for which she's needed antibiotics. She's currently on antibiotics now for an intestinal infection. These infections are mostly because of her compromised immune system. She's also had some stiff neck and back issues, for which she needs bedrest and no walks. This is a tough one for me as well, Ursa and my daily walks were fun and important, now we don't do them so often. Loua fills in and loves her walks as well.
Her appetite is changing, she doesn't always want to finish her meals. We've turned to freeze dried Primal with some cooked raw meat and sweet potato or rice. Sometimes Ursa likes a boiled egg, other times not. Basically, whatever Ursa wants to eat, we give her!
We're seeing Ursa's good health declining, but want to give her a fair chance to get over this infection (and past ones). So far, Ursa is a trooper and hanging in there. The other day, she still wanted to play ball with Loua.
That's it for now...

I know that feeling. Kidney disease is tough, especially when they become picky. The reason they are picky is because the toxins make them feel nauseous, changing foods helps with that. Do you do IV fluids? Cookie couldn't have them because he had a heart issue as well, but they help a lot to flush the toxins out of the system.
Thinking of you.

Hi Lena. Thanks for your reply.
Yes, have talked about IV fluids with Dr. Wanda, but we don't think Ursa would tolerate it well. Instead, we're using a Chinese herb to decrease the toxins and also give her a homeopathy. When she appears to be nauseous, we give her Nux Vom. We are changing her meals almost daily and the last 2 days, she eats when we give her meds (antibiotics and keppra) with peanut butter and then put some on her meals. Amazingly, once she starts eating, she chows down good, it's finding what Miss Ursa wants to eat that day, lol.
You're right, it's tough, but we're both here to help Ursa... until she can't anymore.

Another update.
Ursa is starting Gabapentin this evening and hopefully it will help her neck and back stiffness. We were giving her homeopathies for this, but they're not potent enough.
She's eating pretty good because we're adding beef broth, but got to find some bone broth soon. Otherwise, Ursa is doing okay, but it would be nice if our cold temperatures would warm up so she and Loua can be outside more. More snow expected tomorrow, so we're definitely having a white Christmas.
Merry Christmas everyone, with love from Ursa, Loua and me!!!

That is great news, I hope Ursa continues to do well!
Merry Christmas! I wish we had a white one as well, but no snow this winter so far...

Ursa, March 10. 2011 - December 28, 2025.
Ursa, "Teranjo's Bear with me" died today at a Vet hospital. Ursa died on the same date as Bailey, our chocolate Lab, who died 23 years ago.
We held Ursa with love and tears and sent her to Heaven with ample love to see Opal again and meet all our past beautiful Labs/dogs who went before her.
We are so thankfully for having had Ursa as a big part of our lives. Ursa was always a happy, easy-going girl and we miss and will miss her as our lives go on without her.
We are also thankful that Loua is here with us to ease our broken hearts and we're here to help her through her grieving as well.
Rest easy sweet, beautiful Ursa-girl XOXOXO................
