What are you currently reading a/o listening to?

Just finished The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin, The 9th Girl by Tami Hoag, and The Boy in the Suitcase by Lene Kaaberbol. I listen to a lot of books on tape when driving or doing things around the house (like perusing the Lab Board ) and I just had a 6 1/2 hour drive to and back from NC. I liked the sweet little story of AJ Fikry but the reader had such an annoyingly measured pace that I could have finished the book in about half the time if I had read it, read it. The other two were very satisfactory for passing the time while on a long drive. I didn't think I liked John Sandford books and haven't really read any of his Lucas Davenport (Prey series) books but I have listened to or read all his Virgil Flowers books and like them a lot.

Listening to? If not books, then usually NPR radio.

World War II In A New 'Light': Empathy Found In Surprising Places : NPR

A benefit of living where I do is readily tuning in NPR. That interview looks interesting, will have to listen to it. The topic - WWII and empathy - reminds me of a non-fiction book I read this winter, Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken. I highly recommend it.

I'm currently reading The Target by David Baldacci. Just finished The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks. I love to listen to country music. My favorite is channel 59 on SiriusXM radio when I'm driving in the car. We have DirectTV, and I put on channel 814 to listen to country when I'm hanging out around the house. That's what Sam listens to also when we aren't home!

I am currently reading the autobiography of Dolly Parten. Yes, I find her very interesting and anxious to see how she makes her big break from the holler.

Time to revive the thread.

Now am currently reading 'The Stand: The Complete and Uncut Edition" by Stephen King and have been listening to a playlist I built called 'Steampunk' containing some selections in that genre.

This is my favourite edition. Some characters' motivations make even more sense. And I like his introduction.

I just finished 'Champlains Dream', David Hackett Fisher's biography of the explorer and founder of New France. He strongly emphasizes the man's ability to accept, even empathize with the people and the vastly different cultures thriving in North America as well as his ability to operate in French royal court politics.

I'm currently reading 'Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking' by Susan Cain.

I checked out four books from the library today: 'Hunting Badger', The Ionian Mission', 'On the Beach', and (deep breath, it's a long title) 'Up, up, & away : the Kid, the Hawk, Rock, Vladi, Pedro, Le Grand Orange, Youppi!, the crazy business of baseball, & the ill-fated but unforgettable Montreal Expos.'

I just read "Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea" by Barbara Demick. I don't read much non-fiction but this was very readable and a fascinating look at the country through the eyes of six former North Korean citizens. Memorable to me in a way that most books I read are not.

In a bit of a Christopher Hitchens phase now, reading a few of his that I had not gotten to over the years. Just finished his book on Thomas Jefferson and started 'The Trial of Henry Kissinger.' Also recently finished 'No Place to Hide,' Glenn Greenwald's book on Edward Snowden, which was excellent.
