    So. Much. Whining.

A friend and I took stormy for a 6 mile walk today. While Ive taken Stormy on walks in the neighborhood this is first time we walked with someone else in a few months. From the start stormy seemed very excited, perhaps over stimulated. She tried to jump on my friend numerous times and while we were walking she constantly whined. She actually walked pretty well on the leash and when we stopped she automatically sat, but omg, for SIX MILES it was just whine whine. She wasnt whining to do something, it was more of a background noise. Im guessing it was excitement? Any ideas?

Yeah, I guess, especially if it was 6 miles on a leash, maybe she wanted to run and explore hence the complaining all the time. They get so excited with all the new smells.

She definitely wanted to run free. All of our parks have strict leash rules, though. And because shes never been offleash on a walk, I have zero faith in her recall. I can see her running after a deer and getting lost.

I don't know... just a WAG, here. (Wild A$$ed Guess). For a lot of dogs, the noise is like saying "I'm outa here, maybe only in my head, but I'm fixing to break." So, you could try treating the whine like when the dog is tugging on the leash. Stop, bend over and say "hush" or "quiet"... when pup is quiet, you tell him what a big dog he is and resume the walk.

I think for some dogs they are just not even aware they're doing it, so pointing it out and rewarding quiet is helpful. Tedious but... isn't everything.
