    New and Old

Hello! We are starting off on that crazy journey to find a new Lab puppy. We lost our 13 year-old Lab several years ago and it took a while to get over the loss.

It now seems a bit empty around the house with no brown eyes following you around!

I know that the best place to begin is with the local clubs, but we live in Florida and there is no club here. Also, the only Florida breeder listed on the National Club site has no web page to investigate health of the Labs further.

I also found a few breeders through field dog and Lab activity searches and some look pretty good and some a little questionable, but I am very inexperienced here! I know I should not be mentioning specific Kennel names so I'll just leave it there.

I am willing to drive a fair distance (maybe a couple states away) if I can locate a reputable breeder.

I've also noticed a few breeders from other places mentioning that they use the "bio sense" technique. Is this something that is different from the way puppies have been raised in the past?

Any help, recommendations or advice would really be appreciated!

    James

Welcome to the board. Sorry for the loss of your Lab, it's a hard thing and it does take time to make the decision to get another dog.

There are several good breeders on this board who may be able to help you with your search, and I'm sure they will weigh in at some point. You may want to familiarize yourself with the OFA website, ofa.org, it allows you to look up health clearances of a dog if you can get the registered name or AKC reg number. Since Labs are prone to many hereditary problems, you need to do your due diligence in making sure the breeder is doing ALL appropriate clearances.

    Welcome to the board.

We can't name breeders in the public area but the knowledgeable members who can help you can do so via the Private Message function. If you have a PM from someone, the word Notifications at the top of this page will be in a grayish/blue box. Click on it to access your inbox. BUT: you need 5 posts to use the PM function. You can visit around, post some replies....or go to the TEST section and just create test posts over and over till you hit 5. Wishing you success in finding your perfect pup.

Thanks Sundance! I think I am now able to receive PMs now. I’m now trying to figure out the OFA site. You almost need a genetics degree to really know what’s going on!
