    Hello Again

Hi all, probably no one will remember me, but I was on the board back in 2010-2013ish maybe. I adopted my boy Logan in May of 2010. He was probably 2 years old at the time, then I got involved in rescue and have several foster pups that went on to happy homes.

Life for Logan and I was amazing. My boy was shy, but loving. I remember walking him around the neighborhood and he would see kids in the street and it's the only time he ever whined because he wanted to go and play with them. In 2013, I met my wife, we got married in 2015, and in 2016 gave Logan his very own human sister. He was 8-ish at this point, but he wanted to be around her all the time. In 2019, we added a set of twin girls. My boy was so good with these kiddos. Unfortunately, after over 11 years with my partner in crime, he told me it was time to let go and we said goodbye last July. I am so happy for all of the memories we had together and for giving him a great life.

My wife had a Boston Terrier when we met, she passed in 2013 from cancer and in 2014, we adopted a chihuahua together. Sweetest Chi that has ever lived, not yappy, just a little love bug. She has heart failure and kidney failure (since 2019), but we're keeping her comfortable with meds and I think she is going to out live us all. I definitely thought she would go before Logan at some points.

So, after sever months without a lab in the house, I found a reputable breeder (after doing the rescue thing, I couldn't risk bringing in an adult dog with unknown history with my kids) and put down a deposit. Shula was born on 8/9 and we'll pick him up on 11/3 after he spends an extra month with the breeder for bootcamp and hopefully comes home with a head start on training. With 3 young kids, we'll take all the help we can get there. Hopefully the pics work. We originally wanted a chocolate boy, but it wasn't meant to be. I just knew I couldn't go with another black lab, it would be too hard to not see Logan every time I looked at him.

This will be my first time raising a puppy, so I am sure I'll be looking to this board for guidance and getting the trusted advice I relied on in those early days with Logan and the foster dogs.

Hi, I remember your name although I do not remember anything about your pups. I'm sorry Logan isn't around to keep you and your kiddos company. The new little pup, Shula, looks completely adorable! It sounds like a good idea to have a head start on training, considering the ages of your littles.

Hopefully the breeder will help out with discouraging the pup from jumping on and nipping the kids. That's probably the biggest issue we've had with puppies and little kids. We didn't have labs when our own kids were young but we have 3 grandkids between the ages of 4 months and 7 years who we see frequently. We thought our 4 year old dog was energetic but compared to the puppy, he seems like the picture of calm. I forgot to mention we have a 5 month old lab puppy as well as the 4 year old dog. The 7 year old grandkid is not afraid of the jumping and nipping and will run and play chase with the puppy. The 4 year old grandchild does not appreciate the jumping and nipping in the least. I try to discourage both of them from getting down on the floor and rolling around with the puppy, it just revs him up.

We look forward to hearing about the adventures of Shula!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Welcome back stranger! Who couldn’t remember the Orlando Bull and Logan!
Sorry to hear about Logan, yeah I think a lot of us “old timers” have had our packs thin out a little since then but we’re still here and some of us with new fur kids. Looking forward to hearing about the new pup.
